REVIEWS 'Ice' a warm up for winning sound

The V-Roys have a bunch of major pluses working in their favor. They're one of the first bands signed to Steve Earle's trustworthy new label and Earle co-produced the disc. No one knows cowboy rock 'n' roll like the reborn Steve Earle.

The Knoxville-based foursome is also a romping bar band, right down to their thin neckties, jangling Telecasters and beer soaked boot souls. They sing songs of babes, beer and betrayal and do it all with smart-alecky humor and swinging twang.

But here's the best part. The band has managed to maintain that loose and loud party sound on record, a miracle is these days of production-addicted record companies.
